Hong Kong comes to life once the sun comes down. People flock to the street. Restaurants pop up. Shops stay open late. There is life everywhere you go. Not to mention the great lights and night views you can get of the city.

I didn’t take advantage of it enough while I was there unfortunately. Battling jet lag was tough and by the time the end of the day came, I was so utterly exhausted and just wanted to crawl into bed to sleep. However, that said, I did manage to go out a bit and explore. There are so many people out on the streets and the crowds were so thick making it nearly impossible to move through them.

Here are a few shots of Hong Kong at its best: at night.

Tall Buildings

Buildings in Hong Kong seemed impossibly tall. Even the ones that only house people in them. I was constantly craning my neck trying to get a closer look at buildings.

Massive Crowds and Neon Lights

No matter where you went, there were always lots and lots of people. The air above you is aglow from the what seems like thousands of signs trying to get your attention. It really is sensory overload when you first arrive.

Food

The best part of going out at night is all the awesome food. While we did eat some, we didn’t eat enough of it! Lines were so long and to me, they’re all kinds of junk food and not very healthy. What I did eat, for some unknown reason I didn’t take any photos. All around, there are these little BBQ joints that pop up in the late afternoon. This one was one right under our apartment. It took a ridiculously long time for our order to come up. It was delicious though!

Occupy Hong Kong

While I was in Hong Kong, the Occupy Central and Occupy Mongkok was still going strong. Our AirBnB apartment was just a street away from where all the action in Mongkok was. I would fall asleep to chanting and people preach on their megaphones.

In no way did I feel unsafe though. There were plenty of police around just looking on, taking care of anything that might possibly happen (funny story, I jaywalked in front of a group of them and they could care less). I did witness one scuffle but the police were on top it quickly before it turned into anything huge.

And this is why you don’t drive in Hong Kong…
